Mehbooba warns against ‘illogical’ delimitation, slams BJP’s brute majority power play

Srinagar: Ahead of the India’s special Parliament sitting to introduce the delimitation bill, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led Indian government, expressing apprehension that the exercise would once again be carried out in an “illogical” manner to serve political ends.
According to Kashmir Media Service, talking to the media persons in Kupwara, she said, “Delimitation will take place. Nothing will happen even if I or you say something. The BJP has a brute majority and they will do what they want. The delimitation has to happen in 2026-27 and it will take place”.
Invoking the 2023 delimitation of assembly and parliament constituencies in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the PDP chief branded the exercise an “illogical distribution” marred by gerrymandering.
“We hope that the way delimitation took place here last time, which was illogical, will not happen now. There was gerrymandering of constituencies, and constituencies with fewer voters were created in Hindu majority areas in Jammu. I hope that illogical distribution will not happen now,” she added.
