Police arrest Muslim man for offering prayer by roadside in Uttar Pradesh
Lucknow: Police in India’s BJP-ruled state of Uttar Pradesh have arrested a Muslim youth for offering prayer by the roadside.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the youth was detained in Rampur district after he was seen offering prayer at a crossroads near Shahabad Gate. Following his arrest, he was produced before a court, which sent him to jail. A video of the youth offering prayer has also gone viral on social media.
The family of the detained youth said that he is mentally challenged.
Meanwhile, Hindutva Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, known for his anti-Muslim rhetoric, stated that offering prayers on roads is not allowed in the state.
