Protesters oppose CM’s Thoubal visit as Nagas, Kukis clash during Manipur shutdown

Isphal : Protests against Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh’s visit to Thoubal forced security forces to open “controlled fire,” leaving one person injured, while Naga and Kuki villagers clashed in Kangpokpi district amid a shutdown in Manipur.
According to Kashmir Media Service, police said a large group armed with stones and catapults advanced toward the venue in Wangjing Tentha, where the CM arrived by helicopter to inaugurate a block development office. “Despite repeated warnings… the crowd continued to move aggressively,” police stated, adding that “controlled firing was undertaken as a last resort” to disperse the mob. One protester sustained bullet injuries.
Meanwhile, Naga-Kuki clashes erupted in Kangpokpi during a three-day shutdown called by the United Naga Council over the killing of two Naga travellers in Ukhrul. Shots were fired during the violence. Wednesday also marked day four of a five-day shutdown by Meitei groups demanding arrests in a Bishnupur bomb attack that killed two children.
The incidents expose deepening unrest and ethnic fault lines in Manipur, with state visits requiring aerial routes and security forces resorting to firing on civilians amid repeated shutdowns. KMS-14K
