Delhi court rejects interim bail to Engineer Rashid despite father’s critical condition

New Delhi: A Delhi court has rejected the interim bail application of incarcerated Kashmiri politician and Indian parliament member from Baramulla, Engineer Rashid, who had sought temporary release to visit his critically ill father in Srinagar on humanitarian grounds.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Special Judge Prashant Sharma dismissed the plea, declining relief despite submissions that Rashid’s father is on ventilator support and undergoing critical treatment at SMHS Hospital in Srinagar.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) opposed the plea, maintaining its stance against any temporary release.

Engineer Rashid has remained in custody since August 2019 in connection with a politically motivated case registered by the NIA under the draconian Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Earlier, several Kashmiri leaders, including senior APHC leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, had urged authorities to grant temporary bail on humanitarian grounds. However, the continued denial underscores growing concerns over the Indian judiciary’s approach in cases related to Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

The decision once again highlights how even basic humanitarian considerations are frequently overlooked in Kashmir-related cases.
