Unusual Indian military activity intensifies along Line of Control in IIOJK

Top commanders conduct back-to-back visits to Poonch and Siachen sectors

Jammu: Unusual military activity has been reported along the Line of Control in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, with India’s top Army commanders making back-to-back visits to forward positions in Poonch and the Siachen sector and reviewing the operational preparedness of troops deployed in the territory.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian Army’s Northern Commander Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma visited forward areas along the Line of Control in Poonch district and reviewed the operational readiness of formations deployed in the rugged border terrain.

The Army said the commander was briefed on the prevailing security situation, operational preparedness and challenges associated with deployment in the area. He also interacted with troops and stressed continued vigilance, operational readiness and greater synergy.

The visit is significant as it follows a series of intensified military preparations and assessments in IIOJK. The unusual concentration of senior commanders at forward locations raises questions about New Delhi’s assessment of the emerging security environment along the occupied territory’s frontiers.

In another development, Lieutenant General Madanraj Pande, GOC of the Fire and Fury Corps, visited the Siachen Glacier sector to review the preparedness of troops deployed at the world’s highest battlefield.

According to the Army, Lt Gen Pande interacted with personnel stationed in the extreme high-altitude sector and directed them to maintain the highest standards of operational readiness, discipline and professionalism.

The simultaneous visits by senior commanders to two strategically sensitive sectors indicate heightened emphasis by the Indian military on frontline preparedness and surveillance.

Meanwhile, students of the Higher Defence Management course also visited the Northern Command headquarters in Udhampur, where they were briefed on the prevailing security environment, counterterrorism operations, logistics, technology absorption and capability development.

The developments point to an intensified military focus across IIOJK, where India continues to maintain a heavy troop presence while repeatedly reviewing its operational preparedness along the LoC and high-altitude frontier.
