Congress stages protest sit-in, seeks restoration of statehood

Jammu: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Congress on Monday held a protest demonstration, followed by a sit-in at Vikram Chowk Jammu, under the “Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq” campaign, demanding the restoration of statehood to the territory.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the protest was led by Congress Jammu president Yogesh Sawhney and organized by Block president Ajay Kumar Kaka. A large number of Congress workers and supporters participated, raising slogans and holding placards.
Speaking on the occasion, Sawhney said the restoration of statehood is a matter of constitutional and democratic rights of the people. He said the people have been deprived of their elected government for years, leading to alienation and administrative disconnect. “Statehood is essential for ensuring accountability, strengthening governance, and restoring the democratic voice of the people,” Sawhney said, adding that repeated assurances without action have deepened public frustration. He said the Congress party will intensify its agitation until statehood is fully restored.
Senior leaders including Gurdarshan Singh, Raj Kumar Mehra, Vijay Singh Chib, and others were also present.
