Amid growing resentment against India, water shortage sparks protest in Kupwara

Srinagar: Amid growing resentment against Indian rule in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, residents staged a protest in Bumhama area of Kupwara district over a prolonged shortage of drinking water.

According to Kashmir Media Service, men and women from the locality took to the Kupwara–Sopore road on Monday to protest against the authorities’ failure to ensure a regular water supply. The demonstration caused disruption to traffic, highlighting the severity of the crisis and the anger among the local population.

Protesters said the area had been facing an acute shortage of drinking water for several weeks, forcing residents to endure severe hardship. They complained that repeated appeals to the concerned departments had yielded no results, exposing the occupation regime’s apathy towards basic civic needs in the occupied territory.

Locals said the water crisis was yet another example of systemic neglect under India’s illegal rule, adding that despite the heavy presence of troops and bureaucratic control, the authorities had failed to provide even essential services to the people. They maintained that such failures were deepening public resentment and eroding trust in the occupation administration.
