Contractual workers intensify strike in Reasi over regularisation, pay rise

Srinagar: Contractual workers at the Salal Hydroelectric Project of India’s National Hydroelectric Power Corporation in Reasi have continued their strike for the 12th consecutive day, complaining that the management remains unresponsive to their demands.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the protesting workers said they have been raising issues related to regularisation of services and revision of wages, but no concrete steps have been taken so far. They said that contractual employees are handling a significant portion of operations at hydroelectric projects due to the lack of fresh permanent appointments.
“Contractual staff are managing most of the work, yet our concerns are being ignored,” one of the protesting workers said.
The workers warned that the agitation could be expanded to other NHPC projects across occupied Jammu and Kashmir if their demands are not addressed. They said similar protests were earlier held at the Dulhasti Hydroelectric Project, and the current strike at Salal is part of a broader effort to press for their demands.
The protesters have sought regularisation of services and a pay hike, and urged the resolution of the issue without further delay.
