Major diplomatic blow as BRICS rejects India’s pro-Israel stance on West Asia

New Delhi: India’s leadership at the BRICS+ Deputy Foreign Ministers’ meeting in April 2026 ended in “complete chaos” after member states rejected New Delhi’s pro-Israel stance on the West Asia conflict, exposing deep rifts and a major diplomatic failure.

According to Kashmir Media Service, severe disagreements over language on Israel, Palestine, Gaza, and Iran blocked any joint statement. Only a neutral Chair’s Summary expressing “deep concern” was issued.

India’s attempt to dilute condemnation of Israeli actions in Gaza drew fierce opposition from Russia, China, and Iran. Tehran urged a stronger anti-Western stance, which India ignored.

The sharp Iran-UAE divide further fragmented talks, with India’s “neutral” approach failing to reconcile members. New Delhi also rejected BRICS proposals to trade in local currencies instead of the US dollar, alienating partners. Discussions covered Gaza humanitarian aid, UNRWA, Lebanon ceasefire, attacks on UNIFIL, and conflicts in Syria, Yemen, Iraq, Libya, and Sudan — but no unified position emerged.

“Not a single BRICS country is happy with India’s performance,” sources said, adding that Modi’s abandonment of Palestine and pro-Israel bias have weakened India’s standing and influence in the bloc.
