Chandigarh: Indian police authorities used brute force and lobbed teargas shells at inmates in Kapurthala jail, Punjab.

According to Kashmir Media Service, several inmates were injured after police fired teargas shells and resorted to a cane charge on prisoners on Sunday in Kapurthala jail.

Some inmates came out of the barracks, reached the rooftop, and a few set some clothes on fire, the officer said.

Following the incident, a heavy police force was deployed to bring the situation under control.

No Indian personnel or jail staff were injured, according to police.

There are around 4,000 inmates in Kapurthala jail.

Meanwhile, Indian police ASI Joga Singh was shot dead by unidentified bike-riding attackers near Majitha in Amritsar. The officer was on his way to report for duty when he was shot and killed while riding his scooter.
