BJP govt conspiring to silence Hurriyat leadership through prolonged detentions: APHC

Calls for int’l pressure on India to release all Hurriyat leaders, political prisoners

Srinagar : In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has said that the BJP-led Indian government is pursuing a systematic policy to silence the illegally detained Hurriyet leadership through draconian laws, prolonged incarcerations, and politically motivated legal proceedings.

According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas, in a statement issued in Srinagar, said the Indian National Investigation Agency’s move seeking life imprisonment for Muhammad Yasin Malik, Aasiya Andrabi, Nahida Nasreen and Fehmeeda Sofi, along with the prolonged illegal detention of APHC Chairman Masarrat Aalam Bhat, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Dr Hameed Fayaz, Adv Mian Abdul Qayoom and others, reflects a deliberate attempt to intimidate and provoke the Kashmiri people.

He said that Indian courts are functioning under the influence of the Hindutva-driven BJP regime and are being used to punish Kashmiris for demanding political rights and the UN-mandated right to self-determination.

The APHC spokesman said that the demand for harsh sentences, including life imprisonment and capital punishment, is part of a deep-rooted conspiracy aimed at judicially eliminating the of popular Kashmiri leadership.

He added that the continued incarceration of Kashmiri leaders under fabricated and politically motivated cases amounts to state-sponsored oppression and violates basic principles of justice and human rights.

The APHC appealed to the United Nations, OIC, EU, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and the International Committee of the Red Cross, as well as major world powers and peace-loving nations, to come forward and save the Kashmiri leadership from the anti-Kashmir agenda of the Hindutva RSS/BJP-dominated establishment.

The statement also urged these stakeholders to exert pressure on the BJP regime led by Narendra Modi and Amit Shah to release all illegally detained Kashmiri political prisoners, including Hurriyet leaders languishing in various jails across India and IIOJK.
