Strengthening unity within the Muslim Ummah is the need of the hour: Mirwaiz

Srinagar : In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), senior All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has underscored the importance of unity and solidarity within the Muslim Ummah, saying that strengthening unity among followers of Islam is the foremost need of the hour.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, addressing a Friday congregation at the Jamia Masjid in Ichgam area of Budgam district, said that at a time when Muslims across the world are confronted with numerous challenges, they must focus on Islam’s enduring message of brotherhood, mutual respect, and collective responsibility rather than divisions and differences.

He stressed the need for introspection, self-awareness, and accountability at both the individual and collective levels, urging Muslims to reflect on the challenges facing the Ummah and their responsibilities towards Allah and society.

The APHC leader said that just as individuals are encouraged to evaluate their actions and conduct, societies must also assess their direction and priorities. He emphasized that communities should continuously strive to uphold the values of faith, compassion, justice, honesty, and mutual respect, which form the bedrock of a strong, healthy, and progressive society.

Referring to the challenges faced by the people of Kashmir over the years, he said many families have endured pain, uncertainty, and hardships, while a large number of young people continue to grapple with concerns about their future. He observed that the strength of a society is measured not merely by material progress, but by the resilience of its families, the character and education of its youth, care for the underprivileged, and a collective commitment to justice, dignity, and public welfare.

Mirwaiz also highlighted the important role and responsibility of religious scholars, preachers, and Islamic missionaries in guiding society. He said the pulpit is a sacred trust and should be used to promote faith, moral reform, wisdom, compassion, and social harmony. He urged religious leaders to refrain from rhetoric that could sow discord or deepen divisions among Muslims, and instead work towards fostering unity, understanding, and cohesion within the Ummah.
