Cloudburst causes flood-like situation in Gurez, damages homes, crops
Bandipora: A cloudburst triggered a flood-like situation in the Tulail Valley area of Gurez in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, causing damage to residential houses and agricultural land and adding to the hardships faced by local residents.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the cloudburst struck Tartei Kilshay village during the evening, sending a sudden surge of water and debris into the area. Several houses were inundated while standing crops and agricultural fields suffered damage, forcing residents to move to safer locations amid panic.
Local officials said the cloudburst caused extensive damage to property and crops, although no loss of life or injuries were reported. Revenue and administrative officials rushed to the affected area to assess the situation and monitor relief efforts.
Residents of the village appealed for immediate assistance and adequate compensation for the losses incurred as a result of the natural calamity.
Observers noted that extreme weather events, including cloudbursts and flash floods, have become increasingly frequent in different parts of occupied Jammu and Kashmir, posing serious challenges to vulnerable communities dependent on agriculture and livestock for their livelihood.
