Mirwaiz placed under house arrest ahead of Imam Bara Bemina address

Srinagar: The authorities in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir today placed senior APHC Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest, preventing him from addressing a congregation at Imam Bara Bemina.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Mirwaiz was to pay tribute to Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and the martyrs of Karbala, highlighting their timeless message of sacrifice, truth, justice, and steadfastness. However, the authorities barred him from leaving his residence and attending the gathering.

In a statement, Mirwaiz said Kashmir has always been a beacon of mutual respect, brotherhood, and religious harmony, where love for the Ahl-e-Bayt (RA) and reverence for the blessed Companions of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) form an integral part of the people’s shared spiritual heritage.

He said that at a time when society is facing multiple challenges, unity, restraint, mutual respect, and standing together are more important than ever. He stressed that no divisive force should be allowed to weaken the centuries-old traditions of communal harmony and peaceful coexistence that have long characterized the people of Kashmir.

Appealing to people from all sections of society, Mirwaiz urged them to uphold dignity, patience, and mutual respect, and to honour the enduring message of Karbala by remaining steadfast in truth, compassion, justice, and unity.

The continued restrictions on Mirwaiz’s religious and public engagements have drawn concern among his followers, as such measures are widely viewed as an attempt to suppress peaceful religious expression and undermine the spirit of inter-sect harmony in the occupied territory.
