IIOJK statehood delay undermining governance: Dy CM

Srinagar: In Indian Illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister and senior National Conference leader Surinder Choudhary has said the party’s upcoming protest in Delhi demanding restoration of statehood would represent the collective aspirations of the people and remind Indian government its commitments.
According to Kashmir Media Service, addressing a party meeting in Jammu, Choudhary said the continued delay in restoring statehood had affected governance and restricted the functioning of the elected government. “The Indian Prime Minister and the Home Minister had promised both inside and outside Parliament that full statehood would be restored. However, nearly two years after the elected government assumed office, that promise remains unfulfilled,” he said.
He said denying statehood was an affront to the collective will of the people. “This amounts to disregarding the mandate of people who participated in the democratic process. Denying statehood means denying people their democratic rights,” he added.
Choudhary said occupied Jammu and Kashmir continues to face differential treatment.
