NC directs all MLAs, MPs to reach Delhi for statehood protest

Srinagar : The National Conference (NC) high command has directed all its MLAs and MPs to reach New Delhi by July 19 to participate in the party’s protest at Jantar Mantar on July 20.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the protest has been announced by Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and NC Vice President Omar Abdullah to intensify the party’s demand for restoration of statehood to the territory.
Addressing a gathering at Hazratbal recently, Omar Abdullah said the party had pursued the issue through dialogue for nearly two years, but was now compelled to adopt democratic and peaceful protest as the promise remained unfulfilled.
NC President Farooq Abdullah has invited 52 leaders, including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee, Akhilesh Yadav, Arvind Kejriwal, Mehbooba Mufti and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, to join the demonstration on the opening day of Parliament’s Monsoon session.
