Jammu-Srinagar highway closed from both ends following heavy rains
Srinagar : Traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar highway in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir was suspended from both Jammu and Srinagar ends on Wednesday morning after persistent rainfall triggered mudslides and shooting stones at several locations, rendering the route unsafe for vehicular movement.
According to Kashmir Media Service, traffic police officials said the highway was closed to all traffic as heavy rain continued to affect the entire stretch, with multiple vulnerable locations witnessing landslides and falling rocks.
The suspension of traffic comes as widespread adverse weather continues to affect parts of Jammu and Kashmir, disrupting road connectivity and increasing the risk of further landslides along the strategic highway.
Authorities have advised commuters to refrain from travelling until weather conditions improve and the road is cleared and declared safe for traffic. The Traffic Police has also urged passengers and transporters to check the latest highway status through its official social media platforms or by contacting the respective Traffic Control Units (TCUs) before planning their journey.
