Over one million at risk after 1017 locations in IIOJK identified as flood-prone
Srinagar: Indian illegally Jammu and Kashmir has 1,017 flood-prone and vulnerable locations, with more than 10 lakh people living in areas at risk, official figures reveal.
According to Kashmir Media Service, 654 vulnerable villages are located in Kashmir where nearly 7.22 lakh people have been identified as being at risk. The remaining 363 vulnerable locations are spread across 10 districts of the Jammu region.
Despite tall claims of preparedness by the authorities, residents in vulnerable areas complain of a lack of visible flood mitigation measures on the ground, with authorities showing continued indifference toward strengthening embankments, desilting water bodies and ensuring timely relief for at-risk communities.
