Residents protest poor sanitation in Udhampur, warn of strong agitation
Jammu: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, residents protested against the authorities in Udhampur over deteriorating sanitation, stating that civic services have collapsed in the district.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the residents said heaps of garbage have been lying unattended near houses for years, emitting foul smell and posing health hazards. They added that waste accumulation during the monsoon has increased mosquitoes and insects, raising the risk of diseases.
Despite repeated complaints, they said, the authorities have only given assurances. District Congress Committee (DCC) Udhampur President Sumeet Magotra visited the area, inspected garbage dumps and drains, and summoned Municipal Council officials and sanitation staff to the spot.
Expressing strong displeasure, he said ensuring sanitation is the primary responsibility of the Council and people cannot be made to suffer due to administrative negligence.
Magotra directed officials to launch an immediate sanitation drive and clear garbage dumps and drains in the ward within 24 hours. He warned that if the system is not restored within the deadline, the residents will launch a peaceful but strong protest, including a road blockade, and the responsibility would rest with the administration and Municipal Council.
