Mirwaiz placed under house arrest, barred from offering Friday prayers in Srinagar
Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), the administration under the New Delhi-appointed Lieutenant Governor placed senior All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest today, preventing him from offering congregational Friday prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar.
According to Kashmir Media Service, a statement issued by Mirwaiz Manzil, the office of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, said that the authorities confined the Mirwaiz to his residence and barred him from visiting to the historic Jamia Masjid to perform the Friday congregational prayers.
“The authorities have once again placed Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir under house arrest today, preventing him from going to the historic Jamia Masjid, Srinagar, to deliver the Friday sermon and offer congregational prayers,” the statement said.
It further said, “Silencing people’s voices through arrests and bans will neither address their concerns nor prevent us from raising them.”
