NC chief says fear being created under conspiracy to deny statehood
Srinagar: National Conference president Farooq Abdullah has said that India-appointed Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’ administration is orchestrating threats to Kashmiri Pandits in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir as part of an conspiracy to prolong the denial of statehood to the territory.
According to Kashmir Media Service, interacting with media persons in Islamabad town, Abdullah questioned the credibility of claims that Kashmiri Pandits were being threatened, asking why senior officials from India were not facing similar threats if the situation was as serious as portrayed by the authorities.
“Who is issuing the threats?” Abdullah asked, pointing out that most senior police and civil administration officials posted in the territory are from outside [India]. He questioned why the Director General of Police, Deputy Inspectors General, Senior Superintendents of Police and deputy commissioners were not facing such threats.

The NC chief said that the reported threats were part of a conspiracy aimed at creating an atmosphere of fear and providing the Modi regime with a pretext to delay restoration of statehood to Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
“This is a conspiracy with the sole objective of denying statehood to J&K. An atmosphere of fear is being created,” he said, questioning the Indian government’s repeated claims that peace had returned to the territory and militancy had been eliminated.
Abdullah directly accused the administration led by Indian-appointed Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha of being responsible for the alleged threats and demanded that he explain their source.
The NC president also criticised the Modi regime for failing to fulfil its commitments regarding Jammu and Kashmir. Referring to the NC’s protest in Srinagar, he said the territory was passing through a difficult phase and alleged that promises made by New Delhi regarding delimitation, elections and restoration of statehood had not been honoured.
He said the NC’s protest had demonstrated that the party would not be intimidated or suppressed.
