Trump says 'terrific man' Shehbaz credited him with saving 30 million lives
United Nations: US President Donald Trump has again said that he helped end the India-Pakistan conflict of May 2025, making the assertion during his address to the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Trump listed Pakistan and India among eight conflicts he said he had helped settle since taking office. He said his efforts involved his relationships with the leaders concerned, trade, tariffs and the threat of tariffs, depending on the country and circumstances.
Referring specifically to Pakistan, Trump said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was a “terrific man” and claimed that the Pakistani premier had credited him with “saving 30 million lives, and probably many more than that.”
Trump has repeatedly claimed since the May 2025 military confrontation that his intervention helped bring about the cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan. His latest remarks before the UN General Assembly reiterated that account at the highest international forum.
Trump’s latest statement thus puts his account of the May 2025 conflict and its cessation on record once again before the international community, while the Indian government continues to maintain its own account of how the hostilities were brought to an end.
