BJP pursuing agenda to erase Kashmiri identity: APHC

Urges UN to end Indian repression and resolve Kashmir dispute under its resolutions

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has urged the United Nations and world powers to restrain the BJP-led Indian government from using brutal military force in the territory and promoting its Hindutva agenda.

APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas, in a statement issued in Srinagar, said that the Indian government had deployed over one million personnel in occupied Jammu and Kashmir to maintain its illegal hold over the territory. He said the forces, operating under the draconian Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), enjoyed impunity to kill unarmed Kashmiris in fake encounters, make arbitrary arrests and perpetrate other forms of repression.

He said that the BJP government was also pursuing a sinister agenda to erase the cultural identity of the Kashmiri people and alter the demographic composition of IIOJK.

Minhas said the Indian government had turned the occupied territory into a military garrison and deprived Kashmiris of their fundamental rights. He added that those raising their voices against Indian repression were being jailed under draconian laws, including the Public Safety Act (PSA) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

The spokesman said the settlement of the Kashmir dispute lay in the implementation of the United Nations Security Council resolutions. He maintained that resolving the dispute was essential not only for peace in South Asia but also for global stability, as Kashmir is surrounded by three nuclear-armed countries, Pakistan, India and China, which together are home to nearly half of the world’s population.

The APHC said that India’s intransigent policies were a major obstacle to resolving the Kashmir dispute. The spokesman urged the United Nations to take notice of New Delhi’s colonial tactics and unrealistic approach and exert pressure on Indian leaders to settle the dispute in accordance with UN resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
