‘Chillai Kalan’ concludes as dry spell persists in IIOJK
Srinagar: Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday bid farewell to the 40-day winter ordeal, Chillai Kalan, marked by moderate snowfall in the upper reaches but a continued dry spell in the plains.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the absence of substantial precipitation during this critical period has triggered apprehensions about water scarcity, impacting agricultural prospects.
While the mountains and tourist spots retained a snow-covered allure, the plains remained noticeably parched. The dry Chillai Kalan has led to a significant decline in water levels in reservoirs, prompting fears of a potential scarcity in the upcoming farming season.
As Chillai Kalan concludes, attention now turns to the subsequent periods of “Chilla Khurd” and “Chilla Bacha” until March 1. The lingering dry conditions emphasize the urgent need for precipitation to mitigate concerns about water scarcity in the territory.
