Mumbai tense after arrest of renowned Islamic preacher

Mumbai: The detention of prominent Islamic preacher Mufti Salman Azhari by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad has ignited tensions in Mumbai, leading to widespread protests by outside in the city.

According to Kashmir Media Service, he was arrested in connection with a speech. Currently held at the Ghatkopar police station, Mufti Salman’s arrest has caused a significant disruption in the city, with thousands of supporters gathering and bringing traffic to a standstill.

In an attempt to address his followers, Mufti Salman asserted his innocence, stating, “…Neither am I a criminal, nor have I been brought here for committing a crime.”

Wahid Sheikh, the legal representative of Mufti Salman Azhari, blamed the police for a lack of communication regarding the case. Sheikh said that despite Azhari’s willingness to cooperate, there has been no response from the authorities. The case, registered under Section 153 B originated from an event near the ‘B’ division police station in Junagadh on January 31, where he made the speech.

The situation remains tense as both Azhari’s supporters and law enforcement navigate the legal proceedings and investigations surrounding the contentious incident.
