Kashmiri doctor honored with WHO award for tobacco control
Srinagar: Dr. Mir Mushtaq, a renowned doctor from Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, has been awarded by the World Health Organization (WHO) for his exceptional contributions to tobacco control in the territory.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Dr. Mushtaq, associated with the Tobacco Control Programme, Directorate of Health Service Kashmir, is the first doctor from occupied Jammu and Kashmir to receive this distinguished award. His tireless efforts and impactful work in the field of tobacco control have significantly contributed to the well-being of the community and public health.
The occupied territory faces significant health challenges, including high rates of tobacco consumption, particularly among youth, which has been linked to various factors including psychological trauma and stress as a result of continued illegal occupation of their motherland by India, torture, arrest and harassment of innocent people during unrelenting cordon and search operations and house raids by Indian troops in the territory.
