Iltija Mufti condemns FIR against PDP chief, calls it open intimidation by IIOJK authorities
Srinagar: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Iltija Mufti has strongly condemned the FIR registered against her mother and party chief Mehbooba Mufti, terming it as open intimidation by the authorities in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, speaking at a press conference in Srinagar, Iltija Mufti vowed such tactics by the IIOJK administration would not silence their party from speaking truthfully. “We refuse to bow down. We are committed to speaking truth and upholding democracy in the region,” she stated.
Earlier, Indian police registered FIR against Mehbooba Mufti for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) after she held a protest in Islamabad district on Saturday against detention of party workers and polling agents when polling was going on in Islamabad-Rajouri parliamentary constituency.
Iltija said that just two hours before voting commenced in south Kashmir, hundreds of party workers and polling agents were arbitrarily detained by the police. Iltija said New Delhi in cohorts with the IIOJK administration wanted to create terror in the areas, particularly in PDP strongholds across Islamabad district, to decrease voting.
Regarding Mehbooba Mufti’s protest on polling day in the Islamabad-Rajouri parliamentary constituency, Iltija said her mother did not want to create a scene. Mehbooba wanted to protest against the detention of her party workers and election agents, she said.
