Lower caste rights champion K. Armstrong hacked to death in Chennai

Chennai: K. Armstrong, an Indian politician known for championing the rights of lower caste Hindus, was brutally murdered near his home in Chennai, the capital of India’s Tamil Nadu state.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Armstrong, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief in Tamil Nadu, was attacked by six men on motorbikes with machetes and sickles while he was chatting with friends and supporters. The attackers managed to flee the scene before anyone could intervene.

Chennai police officer Asra Garg reported that eight individuals have been arrested in connection with Armstrong’s murder and are currently being interrogated.

The assassination has sparked outrage, with Armstrong’s supporters taking to the streets to protest and demand justice. BSP head Mayawati condemned the attack, calling it “highly deplorable and condemnable,” and urged the state government to ensure the perpetrators are punished.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed his shock and sadness over the incident, urging the police to expedite the investigation. “Armstrong’s assassination is shocking and deeply saddening,” he stated.

K. Armstrong, a practicing lawyer in the courts of Chennai, served as a corporation councillor in 2006 before becoming the president of BSP’s Tamil Nadu unit. He dedicated his life to the upliftment of Dalits, focusing on their education and employment, which earned him significant popularity among the youth in North Chennai.
