In blatant Islamophobic act, Indian court awards Kaleem Siddiqui, 13 others to life imprisonment
Lucknow: In a blatant manifestation of Islamophobia, an Indian court has sentenced 13 Muslim personaliteis, including renowned Islamic scholars Maulana Kaleem Siddiqui and Umar Gautam, to life imprisonment in a concocted conversion case.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the sentence was given by a special National Investigation Agency court in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, in a 2021 case related to religious conversion.
The court delivered the verdict under IPC section 121A, which pertains to conspiracy against the state.
Various fake and ridiculous charges were framed against the convicted individuals, including “cheating, criminal conspiracy, and promoting enmity between different groups”.
Additionally, 16 others were sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment and fined Rs 10,000 each under the Uttar Pradesh Unlawful Religious Conversion (Prohibition) Act 2021.
However, people familiar with Maulana Kaleem Siddiqui and others dismissed the charges as blatant lies and a sheer act of Islamophobia in the present-day India under Narendra Modi.
