Rajasthan police arrest Muslim youth over social media posts amid Hindutva pressure
Jaipur: Indian police have arrested 24-year-old Wajid Khan, a Muslim youth from Gangwana village in Ajmer, Rajasthan, over social media posts.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Wajid Khan’s arrest followed pressure from Hindutva supporters who urged police to take action against him. Authorities also seized his mobile phone for examination.
Activists believe Khan was targeted for his outspoken criticism of Hindutva ideology. Shadab Khan, an activist with Volunteer Against Hate (VAH), stated, “Wajid has consistently stood against right-wing activists, sharing news and perspectives from the Middle East and beyond in Hindi. His outspokenness angered the right-wing, leading to pressure on the Rajasthan administration.”
Concerns have been raised about the fairness of the administration’s actions. Ansar Imran, a social media commentator, pointed out the disparity: “You can insult the Muslim prophet without consequence, but a Muslim raising his voice for his community faces arrest under Hindu extremist pressure.”
In response to the arrest, many have rallied online using the hashtags #IStandwithWajidKhan and #StandWithWajidKhan, emphasizing solidarity with Khan amid growing concerns over freedom of expression.
Meanwhile, several Hindutva supporters have claimed credit for the arrest, highlighting their influence over law enforcement.
