10 dead after vehicle with 26 passengers falls into gorge in Uttarakhand
Dehradun: At least 10 people were killed as a vehicle, carrying 26 passengers, fell into a deep gorge in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district today.
According to Kashmir Media Service, as many as 16 people were wounded in the accident, police said.
The vehicle skidded off the road and fell about 250 meters down to the banks of the Alaknanda River on the Badrinath National Highway.
A rescue operation was launched and the injured have been hospitalised.
Out of the 16 injured, seven people have been airlifted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Rishikesh, and nine have been admitted to District Hospital, Rudraprayag. According to Rudraprayag SP Vishakha Ashok Bhadane, the condition of some of the injured is critical.
The passengers were traveling from Delhi/Ghaziabad to Chopta Tungnath. The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained.
