Communist party MP slams Modi govt for risking Indian workers’ lives to please Israel

New Delhi: Communist Party of India (CPI) leader and Indian parliament member, PP Suneer has strongly condemned the BJP-led Indian government for endangering the lives of Indian workers by sending them to the conflict-ridden Israel-Palestine region in a bid to please the Zionist regime.

According to Kashmir Media Service, in a statement, Suneer said that the BJP government was prioritizing its relationship with Israel over the safety of its citizens, especially the workers who are being sent into a volatile war zone. He asserted, “It is clear that the BJP government is more concerned about pleasing Israel than ensuring the safety of Indian citizens.”

Suneer’s remarks followed a reply from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs in the Rajya Sabha, which revealed that approximately 12,000 out of 32,000 Indian workers in Israel arrived after October 2023. He expressed grave concern over this decision, stating, “The situation in the Israel-Palestine war zone is extremely volatile. Instead of advocating for peace and stability in West Asia, the BJP government is jeopardizing the lives of desperate Indian workers who are seeking employment abroad, many of whom are now being sent to a war zone to serve Israel’s interests.”

Suneer also highlighted the contradiction in India’s foreign policy, noting that BJP government’s support for Israel contradicts India’s historic stance on backing the Palestinian cause. “This attempt to appease Israel comes at the cost of Indian lives and undermines India’s longstanding position on Palestine,” he added.

The CPI MP also pointed to the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where the death toll has exceeded 44,000. Among the casualties, Suneer noted, was Colonel Waibhav Kale (retd), a former Indian Army officer and UN Department of Safety and Security staff member. “Despite the severity of the situation, the BJP government continues to send more Indian workers to Israel, putting them directly in harm’s way,” he said.

In response to a question raised by Suneer, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs confirmed the deaths of two Indian nationals during the ongoing conflict—one in an attack from Lebanon in March 2024, and another in Gaza in May 2024. The ministry also reported three Indians were injured during the conflict.

Suneer stated that the Modi government was shirking its responsibility to protect Indian workers and citizens. “By sending Indians to a war zone without adequate protection, the BJP government is showing a clear disregard for their safety. This is unacceptable and will not go unchallenged,” he concluded.
