Conference in British parliament voices support for Kashmiris’ self-determination

London: A conference held at the British Parliament shed light on the plight of the people in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, expressing strong support for their inalienable right to self-determination.

According to Kashmir Media Service, organized by the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) UK Zone, the event was attended by JKLF officials, MPs, councilors, human rights advocates, and media representatives. The conference was co-hosted by MP Richard Burgon and JKLF UK Zone Organizer Amjad Nawaz.

MPs Liam Byrne and Rachel Hopkins expressed strong support for Kashmiris’ right to self-determination and condemned human rights violations in IIOJK. MP Tahir Ali urged the British Kashmiri community to unite and amplify their voice in Parliament, while MP Mohammad Yasin emphasized the importance of building ties with major UK political parties to strengthen Kashmir’s advocacy.

MP Debbie Abrahams discussed her efforts regarding the illegal detention of JKLF Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik and human rights activist Khurram Parvez. MP Imran Hussain informed the audience that a debate on Yasin Malik’s case had been added to the Early Day Motion.

Former Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn described the human rights situation in Kashmir as volatile, stressing that its resolution lies in the will of the Kashmiri people and urging the British government to play a proactive role in resolving the dispute.

Human rights activist Professor Shahid presented evidence of the dire situation in IIOJK, highlighting the treatment of prominent figures like Khurram Parvez as indicative of the plight of ordinary Kashmiris.

Speakers condemned the imprisonment of Yasin Malik, criticized the unjust legal proceedings against him, and denounced the use of draconian laws to target political prisoners in Kashmir.
