13 killed after Indian navy boat collides with ferry off Mumbai coast
Mumbai: Thirteen people were killed and 101 others were rescued after an Indian Navy speedboat crashed into a ferry off Mumbai coast.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the ferry was on its way to the Elephanta Island in the Mumbai harbour, Maharashtra. Three Indian Navy personnel were among those killed in the accident.
Indian officials said that 5 people are still missing. Among the rescued two are critically injured and are treated at a local hospital. The incident took place at 3.55 pm. The rescue operation is underway.
The incident has raised questions and exposed the glaring vulnerabilities in the Indian Navy’s operational readiness and safety culture.
