Delhi Court declines to rule on Engineer Rasheed’s bail plea
New Delhi: A Delhi court has declined to pass an order on the regular bail plea of MP from Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir Engineer Rasheed in a case filed against him for his stance on Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the court, led by Additional Sessions Judge Chander Jit Singh, dismissed the application seeking an immediate ruling on the bail plea, stating it could only decide on a miscellaneous application at this stage.
The case was sent back to the court handling it after the district judge directed it to be transferred to a court designated for lawmakers. Rasheed’s bail plea and the matter of jurisdiction are pending before the Delhi High Court.
Rasheed, elected from Baramulla in the 2024 Indian Lok Sabha elections, has been detained in Tihar Jail since 2019. He was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in connection with a 2017 case, which was subsequently rebranded as a terror-funding case to malign the ongoing freedom movement.
