Over 60 NCC cadets hospitalized after food poisoning in Kerala camp

Kochi: Over 60 National Cadet Corps (NCC)cadets, the youth wing of the Indian Armed Forces attending a training camp in Thrikkakara, Kerala, were hospitalized after food poisoning, creating alarm among participants and their families.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the incident occurred during the 10-day Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC), organized by the 21 Kerala Battalion NCC at a college in Thrikkakara. The camp, which began on December 21, hosted 513 cadets, including 283 boys and 235 girls, from various schools and colleges under the Ernakulam unit.

Symptoms first appeared after dinner, with the number of affected cadets initially reported as 40, rising to 60. Cadets were rushed to a Primary Health Centre and the Medical College, where they were treated. Officials collected food and water samples used for cooking to determine the cause, pending lab results.

In an official statement, the NCC announced a departmental inquiry led by Brigadier Suresh G, Group Commander of Kollam. The officiating Additional Director General of NCC directed the panel to submit its findings promptly.

Following the incident, many cadets left the camp with their parents. The NCC has declared a two-day break, with plans to resume the camp on December 26.
