Los Angeles wildfires should prompt reflection on Gaza destruction: Mehbooba
Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti has drawn parallels between the tragedy caused by the wildfires in Los Angeles and the destruction in Gaza, urging the global community to reflect on the human cost of such devastation.
According to Kashmir Media Service, in a post on X, Mehbooba expressed deep concern over the wildfires that have ravaged parts of Los Angeles, describing them as a shocking reminder of the consequences of environmental negligence. “The devastation caused by the recent fires in LA is deeply shocking and serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of environmental negligence,” she wrote.
However, she emphasized that the tragedy in LA should also serve as a lens to reflect on the man-made destruction in Gaza. She highlighted the deliberate nature of the devastation in the besieged territory, contrasting it with the natural disaster in Los Angeles.
“While the fires in LA can be seen as a natural disaster that, with better prevention, might have been avoided, the devastation in Gaza is a result of actions by a rogue Israeli government, with many countries—and even celebrities in LA—looking on, often indifferent or complicit,” Mufti remarked.
She urged those witnessing the destruction in Los Angeles to develop a deeper understanding of the suffering faced by those in conflict zones like Gaza, where homes and lives are systematically torn apart.
