OIC supports efforts for liberation of Palestine, Kashmiris’ right to self-determination: Ishaq Dar
New York: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar has termed the Organization of Islamic Cooperation as the second largest intergovernmental organization after the United Nations.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, while chairing a meeting on “Cooperation between the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation”, said the OIC is a bridge between global and regional efforts and an organization that harmonizes political priorities with humanitarianism.
According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office, the Deputy Prime Minister said the OIC is working to establish justice, protect human dignity, respect for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of all member states and promote solidarity among nations.
He appreciated the role of the OIC, saying the organization has supported the right of the Palestinian people to freedom and statehood, the right of the people of Jammu and Kashmir to self-determination and the end of India’s long illegal occupation, as well as peace efforts in Libya, Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen, the Sahel and other regions.
The Deputy Prime Minister stressed that cooperation between the UN and the OIC was essential against the rapid rise in the alarming trend of extremism, especially Islamophobia. He said that religious hatred is not only morally indefensible, but it is also an attack on the foundations of the UN Charter.
