Police disrupt Congress’s hunger strike camp in Srinagar, Karra decries action

Srinagar: A peaceful hunger strike organised by the Congress unit in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir was underway in Srinagar today when police attempted to disrupt the protest.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the strike began in the morning at the Maharaja Hari Singh statue site at Tawi Bridge, where party leaders and workers commenced their day-long fast. After two hours, the participants shifted to Shaheedi Chowk to continue the protest in the open. Police, however, denied permission for a cover at the location, forcing the protesters to sit on the footpath under the sun.
Later, addressing a press conference at the site, Congress IIOJK President Tariq Hameed Karra strongly condemned the “misbehavior and manhandling” by police officers. He said the party had already informed the administration of the programme, and the police action was an attempt to disrupt a lawful, peaceful protest.
