Dalit boy dies by suicide after caste humiliation in Shimla
Shimla: A 12-year-old Dalit boy in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India, has died by suicide after being humiliated and locked inside a cowshed by an upper-caste woman, triggering outrage among the local Scheduled Caste community.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the boy consumed poison after the woman allegedly declared his entry into her house as “defilement” and demanded a goat from his parents for ritual purification. He later narrated the ordeal to his mother before collapsing.
Police said investigations were underway under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Local community leaders condemned the incident as a reflection of rampant caste discrimination, demanding stern punishment to prevent recurrence.
