Socialist Party asks Amit Shah to quit over Ladakh killings, situation

New Delhi: The Socialist Party (India) has strongly condemned the ongoing atrocities in Ladakh and held Indian Home Minister Amit Shah directly responsible for the worsening situation in the region, calling for his immediate resignation.
According to Kashmir Media Service, in a press statement issued in New Delhi, the party said that the Home Minister’s tenure has been marked by grave failures in national security, democratic governance, and protection of citizens’ rights, citing unrest in Ladakh, Manipur and the loss of soldiers in Galwan as examples of his mishandling of sensitive issues.
The statement said that Shah’s “irresponsible and reckless” remarks during the August 2019 revocation of Article 370 in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, of which Ladakh is a part, were followed by Chinese penetration in Galwan, where 20 Indian soldiers lost their lives. It also blamed his “inept handling” of the Manipur crisis, which has left Meitei and Kuki communities divided even after two years of violence.
The Socialist Party further said that the killings in Ladakh reflected the government’s “callous disregard for Ladakhi lives,” adding that never before had such brute force been used against civilians in the region.
The party called for a judicial inquiry into the Ladakh killings but said that such an investigation would only be credible if Amit Shah stepped down to allow accountability.
It also demanded full statehood for Ladakh, which it said had been unjustly deprived of its elected representation after being separated from Jammu and Kashmir.
The party said democracy could not survive without accountability and warned that the “injustice to Ladakh, increasing centralisation of power, and erosion of the federal spirit” posed grave dangers to India’s democratic system.
