Rahul Gandhi questions Modi’s silence on Delhi air pollution, demands parliamentary debate

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has called for a detailed discussion in the Indian Parliament on the worsening air pollution in New Delhi, questioning the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on what he described as a “health emergency”.
According to Kashmir Media Service, in a post on X, Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, demanded a strict, enforceable action plan to tackle the capital city’s deteriorating air quality. He questioned why the Modi government was not showing any urgency or accountability on the issue.
Gandhi also met several mothers at his residence to discuss the issue and shared a video of his conversation with them. “Every mother I meet tells me the same thing: her child is growing up breathing toxic air. They are exhausted, scared and angry,” he said.
Addressing Modi directly, Gandhi said, “Modiji, India’s children are choking in front of us. How can you stay silent? Why does your government show no urgency, no plan, no accountability?”.
He said that India needs an immediate, detailed parliamentary debate on air pollution and the implementation of a strict, enforceable action plan to tackle this health emergency. “Our children deserve clean air – not excuses and distractions,” he asserted.
Delhi has been battling very poor air quality from the past 15 days. According to the forecast by the Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi, the air quality is likely to remain ‘very poor’ over the coming week.
