Muslim vendor dies after mob assault in Bihar

Nawada (Bihar),: A Muslim cloth vendor, Mohammad Athar Hussain, succumbed to injuries sustained in a brutal attack by a mob in Bihar’s Nawada district, officials said. The assault occurred after the victim was asked about his religious identity near Bhattapar village under Roh police station.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Hussain, a resident of Gagan Diwan village, was returning home on December 5 when his bicycle broke down. While searching for a repair shop, he was intercepted by a group of villagers who demanded his name and profession before assaulting him. The attackers beat him with a heated rod, cut his ears, robbed him of Rs 18,000, and subjected him to further humiliation.

Hussain was initially treated at a primary health centre and later transferred to Nawada Sadar Hospital and Pawapuri VIMS, where he died on Friday night. A post-mortem examination has been conducted.

Authorities are investigating complaints filed by both the victim’s family and one of the accused.
