IIOJK HC quashes PSA detention of MLA Mehraj Malik, orders his release
Jammu: The High Court of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir has quashed the illegal detention of Doda East MLA and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) IIOJK President Mehraj Malik, booked under the draconian Public Safety Act (PSA), and directed for his immediate release
According to Kashmir Media Service, MLA Mehraj Malik was detained on September 8 for raising issues faced by the people of his constituency. He is currently lodged in the Kathua jail. On September 24, he filed a habeas corpus petition, challenging his detention and claiming Rs 5 crore as compensation for his unlawful imprisonment.
His advocate and AAP spokesperson Appu Singh Slathia, while sharing this news with the media in Jammu, said, “We have won this legal battle. I extend my gratitude to our legal team comprising senior counsel Rahul Pant, Muzaffar Khan, Sheikh Shakeel, M Zulkarnain and Tariq Ahmed who well-argued this case on the basis of sound logic. Besides I thank those who morally supported us with their positive vibes throughout.”
