Farooq Abdullah resents LG powers, vows to fight for IIOJK statehood

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference president Farooq Abdullah said Thursday his party will continue its constitutional struggle for restoration of statehood and rights taken from the people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Abdullah said political stability in IIOJK will remain elusive until commitments to the people are honoured.

“Those conditions should be reviewed and honour restored,” he said, blaming New Delhi’s negligence for prevailing instability.

He criticised the division of powers, stating the elected government should have authority, not the Lieutenant Governor.

“The LG has most of the powers when he should not have those powers. He is a nominee from Delhi,” Abdullah said.

“This is the need of the hour — to unite for the restoration of statehood. We are all united as far as statehood is concerned,” he said.

On calls for a Delhi protest, he said NC will go ahead with its programme and others are free to join.
