Congress launches Padyatra in Jammu, presses for statehood restoration

Jammu: Congress launched a five-day padyatra [march on foot] in Jammu under its “Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq” campaign, demanding restoration of full statehood to Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Congress IIOJK president Tariq Hameed Karra flagged off the march in presence of working president Raman Bhalla and other party leaders.

Addressing workers, Karra said statehood restoration is the democratic and constitutional right of the Kashmiri people and accused the BJP-led Indian government of delaying it despite repeated assurances.

He said the campaign aims to mobilise public support and highlight issues like inflation, unemployment and exam paper leaks.

“Congress will continue its struggle on the roads and in democratic forums until statehood is restored,” Karra said.

Another Congress leader Ram Bhalla said the padyatra will take concerns of common people to the regime and reiterated the demand for full statehood.

The padyatra will cover various areas of Jammu district over the next five days.
