Mehbooba raises harassment of Kashmiri mutton traders with Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti has taken up with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann the harassment of Kashmiri mutton traders who are being stopped and intimidated while transporting livestock and conducting business in Punjab.
According to Kashmir Media Service, in a post on X, Mufti said she spoke with Bhagwant Mann about Kashmir mutton dealers facing obstacles at Madhopur, Punjab and the Shambhu border. She said contractors were stopping them “in the name of the Cattle Fair Act”. “Spoke with Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann about Kashmir mutton dealers being stopped and harassed by contractors in the name of the Cattle Fair Act at Madhopur, Punjab and the Shambhu border. He was kind enough to assure me of prompt action,” Mufti posted.
The Mufti thanked Mann for his intervention and said she hoped the issue would be resolved at the earliest. The development comes amid concerns raised by sections of traders over obstacles faced during transportation and trade of livestock outside Jammu and Kashmir.
The incident reflects a broader pattern of harassment of Kashmiris across India since August 2019. From traders and students to laborers and transporters, Kashmiris have routinely faced profiling, detention, assaults, and economic targeting in different states under the pretext of law and security.
Rights groups say such incidents have intensified the sense of insecurity among Kashmiris living or working outside IIOJK.
