Muzaffarnagar tense as Hindutva groups protest Muslim’s right to buy house

Muzaffarnagar: Tension gripped Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar after Hindu residents of Dakshini Krishnapuri locality staged a protest against the sale of a house to a Muslim buyer, exposing the Islamophobia driving housing segregation in India.

According to Kashmir Media Service, residents of the Hindu-majority colony gathered at the Collectorate and submitted a memorandum to the District Magistrate demanding intervention. The protest was led by ward councillor Raju, who alleged that brothers Arpit Jain and Ankit Jain sold their house under Khalapar police station area to a Muslim purchaser.

Raju claimed the colony is “predominantly Hindu” and argued the sale could disturb the “social balance” and atmosphere of the locality. Protesters said concerns were earlier raised in a Hindu Sangharsh Samiti meeting but were ignored.

The memorandum further alleged that people with “criminal tendencies” visited the house, though these claims have not been independently verified. City Magistrate Pankaj Prakash Rathore received the memorandum and assured the matter will be examined and action taken as per legal provisions.

The protest reflects growing Islamophobia where Muslim citizens face barriers to buying property in Hindu-majority areas, directly undermining constitutional rights to equality and housing.
