Farooq Rehmani hails Pakistan’s role in US-Iran ceasefire, urges focus on Kashmir

Islamabad: Senior APHC-AJK leader Muhammad Farooq Rehmani has congratulated Pakistan’s political and military leadership for their shuttle diplomacy that led to the US-Iran ceasefire and signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Rehmani hailed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their patient diplomatic efforts, saying the success could benefit victims of other festering disputes, particularly Kashmir and Palestine. He reminded world leaders of the unresolved Jammu and Kashmir dispute since 1947 and urged India and Pakistan to cooperate with the people of J&K and the UNSC to hold a free, fair and impartial plebiscite to determine the state’s future.

Rehmani said that after 78 years, the Muslim-majority Jammu and Kashmir, including Ladakh and Kargil, has been separated and its laws changed by India, violating international law and UNCIP resolutions. He said IIOJK has been turned into a “dark place like a graveyard” with restricted communication and shrunk space for freedom of expression. He stressed that Pakistan should take up the Kashmir imbroglio with major powers and friends following the US-Iran success to prevent a demographic catastrophe in IIOJK.
