Tremors felt across Kashmir as 6.2-magnitude quake hits Afghanistan

Srinagar: A strong earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale struck on Saturday evening, sending tremors across several districts of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir and triggering panic among residents.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the Center for Seismology said the quake occurred at 7:04:51 PM IST. The epicentre was located at 36.442°N latitude and 70.672°E longitude, about 74 kilometres south of Fayzabad at a depth of 215 kilometres.
Tremors were felt in multiple areas of the Kashmir Valley and parts of Jammu, prompting people to rush out of homes, offices and commercial establishments as a precautionary measure. There were no immediate reports of loss of life or damage to property in the territory. The seismic activity once again highlighted the region’s vulnerability to earthquakes originating in neighboring Afghanistan.
